About Dr. Jimmy Tamai


 

The goal of board-certified orthopedic surgeon Jimmy M. Tamai, MD and the team at Orthopaedic Surgical Associates, LLC is to provide high-quality orthopedic surgery and integrative pain management to men, women, and families living in and around Fairbanks, Alaska.

Dr. Tamai began his professional pursuits at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry. He subsequently enrolled at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans and obtained his Doctor of Medicine. Afterward, Dr. Tamai completed an internship at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois, followed by a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. 

Dr. Tamai moved to Fairbanks in 1992 to assume a position as staff orthopaedic surgeon at Bassett Army Community Hospital on Fort Wainwright. Following the conclusion of his military service, Dr. Tamai worked at Tanana Valley Clinic, also in Fairbanks, until 2005. He also served with the Advanced Medical Centers of Alaska as an orthopedic surgeon. 

Dr. Tamai diagnoses and treats a wide range of musculoskeletal problems, including elbow pain, rotator cuff injuries, meniscal injuries, and carpal tunnel syndrome. He also offers arthritis treatment, ACL repair, fracture care, and regenerative medicine techniques such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Patients can also access cutting-edge amino fluid injections (Juvenate) and hyaluronic acid injections, such as Durolane®, Supartz®, Euflexxa®, Hyalgan®, and Orthovisc®

Whenever possible, Dr. Tamai recommends conservative care options. He exhausts all noninvasive treatments available, except for when surgical intervention is warranted.

Dr. Tamai proudly holds membership in the Alaska Orthopaedic Society and the Interior Independent Practice Association. He’s also a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and a diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
